Observation of Marine Life

Prepare to be mesmerized by the sights and sounds of Western Australia's marine life.

You can experience a crystal-clear close-up of dolphins, whales, penguins, sea lions, turtles, fish and coral - and you don't even need to get your feet wet!

Watch the sea lions, Seal IslandAt Ningaloo Reef, marvel as ancient Green, Loggerhead, Hawksbill and Flatback turtles amble ashore to lay their eggs.

Then participate in programs to help re-establish their breeding colonies at the interactive Jurabi Turtle Centre, northwest of Exmouth.

In Coral Bay, see all the underwater wonders aboard a glass bottomed boat. You'll be bewitched by a parade of tropical fish, turtles, stingrays and rainbow-coloured coral.

At Monkey Mia, 850 kilometres north of Perth, greet a small pod of dolphins as they swim into the calm shallows to snare a feed of fish from the hands of specially trained rangers.

Ocean Park, DenhamOn a boat cruise in Rockingham, viewing platforms and microphones mean you can enjoy the dolphin experience whilst staying dry.

Or take a dolphin sightseeing cruise in Mandurah and be amazed as friendly local pods dance and play around the boat.

The Shoalwater Island Marine Park is a stunning series of limestone islands home to rare seabirds, little penguins and a colony of Australian sea lions.

Marvel at these sea lions lazing on the shores of Seal Island during a ferry tour, or watch penguins being fed at the Penguin Experience Island Discovery Centre.

Western Australia is also a haven for whale watching. You're most likely to spot a humpback, southern right or blue whale on a whale watching tour.

Interact with the dolphins, Monkey MiaIn early June, jump aboard and see humpback and southern right whales cavorting in Flinders Bay, Augusta as they head for warm waters to mate and breed.

Then, in September, take a cruise in Dunsborough to see rare blue whales and calves taking refuge in the calm waters of Geographe Bay.

Or head to Albany in October, where whales are usually spotted frolicking and playing in King George Sound.
